AKC STAR Puppy
If you attended a 6 Week class with PetSmart or Petco puppy classes and can provide proof, you should look into an AKC Puppy Evaluation!
Or, if you want to attend a puppy class to start you and your new partner off on the right foot, look at attending the 6 week puppy course taught by Trainer Megan.
Not only is this class beneficial by the socialization with other dogs and puppies, it also helps better communicate and understand the bond you and your new best friend are creating. Attend an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class for at least 6 weeks. Your instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end of the course. Upon passing the test, you’ll get an application to send to AKC® for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. All dogs are welcome to participate in the program including purebreds and mixed breed pups. All you need is an AKC number.

Therapy Dog
Therapy dog class includes a proper introduction to people, public exposure, socialization, education, and more. In this class, you will receive a letter of completion through NKT and receive a Therapy Dog Title through the American Society of Canine Trainers International once passed. In this class, you will complete a certain number of hours to become a certified team. All dogs must complete a beginner course of some type and have their Canine Good Citizen before joining the class. 2-minute down or sit/stay with the handler holding the leash. Meeting a friendly stranger allows petting, including having their head, ears, feet, and tail touched. The dog is under control with people around and is able to walk on a loose leash without pulling. And so much more.
Not all dogs can become Therapy dogs, an evaluation is conducted to see if the dog and handler can begin training.
It is a requirement for all dogs to complete a beginner class and complete a Canine Good Citizen evaluation before taking the Therapy class.
